What are the new educational technologies?

The education transition seemed gradual and smooth until just the year 2020. The Covid-19 crisis locked students and teachers in their homes and forced everyone to make the technological leap (as stated by the UN), in the most vertiginous way in the educational sector.
This forced the abrupt but necessary incorporation of new educational technologies into the daily routine of teaching and learning.
Electronic books
The problems of space, weight and, above all, outdated information seem to be coming to an end. Thanks to the increasingly frequent development of electronic books, the need for physical books is eliminated and access to information is democratized, since most of them are freely available to students.
Virtual reality
The massive and standardized use of smartphones, tablets and computers has made it possible that virtual reality is no longer just a matter of games and entertainment. Through augmented reality applications or deep immersion tools it has been possible to develop educational experiences of high value in meaningful learning.
MOOC courses
Massive Open On-line Courses have helped more and more people to have access to numerous courses dedicated to the development of specific skills and competences, facilitating access to professionalizing education.
Video games
Video games are increasingly being developed to support the development of memory, coordination, concentration, motor skills and spatial orientation. Their use is also being promoted for the development of students’ creative abilities.
3D Printers
The motivation of seeing an idea materialize is invaluable for the stimulation of creativity and the desire to study, understand and propose in a student.
That is why 3D printers, although not yet so common in the classroom, will be an essential part of the development of skills, especially in higher education.
On-line education
On-line education is basically about complementing the typical face-to-face classes with virtual interactions that promote the use of technological tools for the development of skills and competencies in each specific subject. It should be noted that it is precisely this technology that the whole world adopted after the Covid-19 health crisis.
E-Learning
Unlike on-line education, e-learning is a way of replacing the typical teaching-learning relationship between teacher and student with a system that is mostly self-directed through audiovisual tools and electronic materials for the development of a specific skill.
Today there are already many institutions dedicated exclusively to the creation and commercialization of this educational technology format.
Times change, technology advances, but our need to learn is constant. Thus, our ability to educate must be able to adapt to the conjunctural and structural situations that arise, therefore, every day new educational technologies will be presented to meet that end.
