The main winter destinations in Switzerland

Thaís Lino Cardoso Business Development

Switzerland is a symbol of luxury and exclusivity. And not only because it houses the headquarters of numerous banks and other financial institutions, or is the home of prestigious watch companies, but also because, in its mountains, it has the most select ski resorts in the world.

In addition to hosting numerous winter sports events, Switzerland is also the chosen skiing destination for many of the world’s wealthiest people. In Swiss ski resorts it is common to meet members of British royalty such as Prince William and Kate Middleton, along with such celebrities as Victoria and David Beckham, the tennis player Boris Becker or actors George Clooney and Hugh Grant.

Imposing mountains, endless ski slopes and unbeatable snow conditions make the alpine country one of the best destinations in the coldest season of the year.

With more than 220 ski resorts, Switzerland is a skier’s paradise, in the heart of the Alps and in central Europe.
Among so many options, which are the main ones?

Engadin St. Moritz, Graubünden

Probably the most famous and most traditional ski resort in the world. The region is located on the southern face of the Swiss Alps, and at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, on the “roof of Europe”.

Zermatt, Valais

Located at the foot of the Matterhorn, its tourist development is closely linked to the most famous mountain in the world. It is a car-free holiday centre that has managed to maintain its original character and offers unlimited walking and hiking possibilities.

Klosters, Graubünden

The region offers a special mix of a famous mountain resort – Prince Charles of Great Britain often spends his holiday there – and the romanticism of a typical Swiss town.

Davos, Graubünden

This tourist centre has an international feel to it, and is the highest Alpine holiday, sports and conference centre in the region. At an altitude of 1,560 meters, Davos has the reputation of being the highest city in the Alps.

Arosa, Graubünden

This traditional Grisons’ tourist centre is located at the far end of the romantic Schanfigg valley at an approximate height of 1,800 meters. The impressive world of alpine peaks provides an extensive region where you can practice winter sports in a variety of ways.
