After a year full of significant milestones for BBVA, we are officially welcoming 2022! Of course, not before toasting to all we have learned in 2021, where dedication, excellence and perseverance have been our main allies to overcome any challenge.

BBVA Switzerland decided to go all out at an essential time to set up what we will be tomorrow, by offering our customers the most innovative and digitalised service in the traditional banking sector. And not only have we achieved this, we have also become the very first traditional bank in Europe offering a new service for the purchase, sale and custody of cryptocurrencies, with bitcoin and ethereum as the main digital assets. After six months of trials with a selected user sample, this new offer was launched in June for all our private banking and New Gen customers.

At BBVA we have been exploring blockchain technology for more than five years in a wide array of areas, including international payments, corporate finance and capital markets. The evolution of this new technology, combined with the ever-growing demand for services linked to cryptocurrencies, has enabled us to strike the perfect moment to bet on this service which responds to the request of investors who are increasingly seeking to diversify their portfolio with the utmost guarantees, while operating in a transparent and simple process. So what would be better than counting on the backing of BBVA?

But that was not all. We were also convinced that incorporating this service would mean a complete turnaround in our value proposition. Thus was born New Gen, BBVA Switzerland’s new 100% digital investment account for a new type of consumer who prefers to operate autonomously by taking advantage of technology, and who is seeking to invest in a positive, conscious and committed way. Starting with an initial deposit of 10,000 Swiss francs or its equivalent in euros or US dollars, New Gen offers a catalogue of companies and funds arranged by 11 different topics such as climate change, new technologies, renewable energies, cryptocurrencies or great investment geniuses such as Warren Buffet, among many other options. 

We certainly know we have a long journey ahead but our excitement is ever stronger and our aim even clearer: to keep offering pioneering and differentiating services to deliver new-age opportunities to all.
