BBVA Switzerland participates in the solidarity race ‘Pink Ribbon’

Cristina Albuja Operational Risk

On Sunday, September 2 in Zurich, the 11th solidarity race against breast cancer, Pink Ribbon, was held. Under the slogan: 'ZÄME SIMER STERCHER', (united we are stronger), this race has mobilized thousands of runners, among whom was a BBVA group in Switzerland, included Alfonso Gómez, CEO of the bank. The event was marked by many emotional moments; but perhaps the most significant was when all the participants formed a large pink bow - color that distinguishes this cause - on the lawn of the municipal stadium Letzigrund. The participants, holding hands, sang in unison the hymn of this edition and, they thought about the people for whom they participated in the event. The race does not measure the time of the runners, it is not a competition.
The objective of the charity race is to support people affected by breast cancer and their families.
It is a natural and close event. It is attended by whole families, groups of young people, companies or people who in some way want to demonstrate their commitment to the fight against this disease, the most common among women in Switzerland and almost all over the world. In this edition of Pink Ribbon, 90,000 Swiss francs have been raised, which during the event were handed over to the Zurich Cancer League. These funds will be invested in research projects and prevention campaigns. Pink Ribbon Switzerland has raised more than 1.5 million Swiss francs since 2007. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) breast cancer is the most affecting women 20 to 59 years worldwide. Another important fact is that this tumor also affects men: In Switzerland between 40 - 50 men suffer it every year.
